In 1987, the Arch was given a

new modern look which reflected the transition to bigger and more modern casinos. Although some characters of the old street scene remain we now see more families and a corporate approach replacing the owner operated casinos.

The majority of the retail businesses had moved to the outlying malls to be replaced by tourism oriented enterprises.


Cruising had been declared a nuisance and was discouraged, finally an anti-cruising law was enacted.

The celebration of cars, youth and the sound track of rock'n roll would be relegated to once a summer.


The '80s ushered in a resurgence of hot rods, sometimes in pastel colors.

But, now the cruise crowd contained muscle cars, pony cars and the occasional unique make or model that would have been ignored in the past.

The arch perseveres and Reno evolves. But the cars are now memories or keepsakes.
